Our client, which owns a platform for tradespeople looking to promote their services, wanted to speak to self-employed gas repair and boiler installation and servicing engineers in the UK who were not current users of their platform (they had already interviewed a number of their own users before coming to FieldworkHub). The goal of the research was to understand the experience of being self-employed, what methods they use when pricing their services, and what tools they use to help them with pricing. The client asked us to find tradespeople aged between 30 and 50 to help ensure that the participants had an appropriate level of experience of working for themselves and quoting for a variety of jobs, but were not too close to retirement.
FieldworkHub handled the recruitment process with the client’s target group in mind. We made sure participants were self-employed (not employing other people, subcontracting, or working for a franchise), CORGI-registered, and in the required age range. We verified with each participant that they did not already use our client’s platform, owned and regularly used WhatsApp and Facebook on their smartphone.
Once these points were confirmed, our team arranged for each person to take part in a 60-minute online depth interview with our client. These interviews uncovered insights into how tradespeople set prices for their services, and provided an opportunity for the client to share concepts for a new pricing tool and gather feedback.
As a result of our work, the client received actionable inputs from real tradespeople on how their platform could be improved to better serve its user base.
You and your team did an EXCELLENT job! This was not an easy recruit and you met all the quotas, found participants who were fully qualified (and verified), and everything went super smoothly on the interview days. I appreciated how organized and methodical you were throughout this process, and how responsive and detailed your communications were.
