Spontaneous recall

Also known as Unprompted recall. A popular type of question in market research where respondents are asked to name all of the brands or product names that come to mind when they think of a particular category (e.g. when you think about teabags, which brands come to mind?). It is quite common for a survey to include a spontaneous recall question followed by a Prompted recall question (e.g. which of the following brands of teabag are you familiar with?).
