India is a multilingual and multi-ethnic country in South Asia. It is the seventh-largest country in the world by area. The Indian economy is rapidly growing, along with its population. India recently surpassed China to become the most populous country in the world, with approximately 1.4 billion people calling the country home.

From 2005 to 2023, India’s services exports grew from $53 billion to $337 billion USD. India recognises 22 official languages and has thousands of dialects. India’s world-renowned film industry is enjoyed world-wide. Known as Bollywood, India produces more films per year than any other nation.
The largest contributor to India’s GDP is the services sector, at 50%, which is growing rapidly. This growth is mostly driven by computer services such as cloud services and AI software. India has also emerged as the leading data centre hub in the Asia-Pacific region. India’s manufacturing and construction sectors have also shown strong growth in recent years following government initiatives and public investment, accounting for 25% of India’s GDP share.
Although slowly decreasing over time, agriculture is still an important component of India’s economic output (16%) and employs almost half of the Indian population. India is the largest producer of milk, jute and pulses, and has the world’s largest cattle population with 303 million animals in 2023. Rice, wheat, sugarcane and cotton are also strong exports.
