Interviews with policy experts in Korea

A new client which works in public affairs came to FieldworkHub to recruit policy experts in South Korea to take part in 45-minute online interviews to get their perspectives on the tech industry in general and one well-known US tech company in particular. We were asked to recruit eight individuals who had a minimum of six years’ experience in public policy and public affairs, working in roles at think tanks/NGOs, charities, businesses, consultants or academia in Korea. We were also asked to provide an experienced Korean qualitative moderator to conduct the interviews and a simultaneous translator fo the first two sessions so that our client could observe.

In just over two weeks we were able to recruit all eight profiles. They included:

• a senior profile working on the overseas expansion of Korean IT start-ups at the Ministry of SMEs and Start-ups,
• a senior profile working for the Public Data Division on sharing public data policies and technical experience with international partners
• a senior manager at the Korean Economic Association, a consultant on Smart Cities
• a director at the Korea Internet & Security Agency (KISA)
• a former Deputy Director-General of the Korea Communications Commission
• wo professors working on public affairs at leading Korean universities, one of whom previously held a senior role at a government ministry.

All of the interviews went ahead and were very successful (the participants were so enthusiastic that of the interviews lasted closer to 60 minutes than 45 minutes). The client was extremely pleased with the results and the way that FieldworkHub manage the whole project and we have gone on to complete another nine projects for them since then.
