The client brief
When a biotechnology design company came to FieldworkHub asking for support in recruiting niche healthcare professionals, we were pleased to help since our team already have experience in recruiting lab technicians for healthcare focused in-depth interviews. For this research, our client wished to speak to microbiological laboratory managers and diagnosticians in the Czech Republic, Romania, Saudi Arabia and the UK. The research was to focus on antibiotic susceptibility testing (or AST) and identify difficulties healthcare professionals face in both manual and automated methods of testing. AST is a method used to help doctors determine the most effective antibiotics treatment against different infectious bacteria. Diagnosticians can use automated devices that read sample strips, or use prepared plates and inoculum to manually test samples.
The purpose of the research was to understand the challenges lab managers and diagnostics professionals experience while conducting AST in microbiology laboratories, and how these challenges may differ by region and by method.
FieldworkHub delivers
Our team was responsible for recruiting healthcare professionals who conduct either manual or automatic antibiotic susceptibility testing in a laboratory environment. We validated that each participant held the job titles our client requested, and that they conduct at least 90 ASTs a week. As interviews were being held in 4 different markets, there were a few time zones to balance, as well as the translation of discussion guides into local languages. Our team scheduled each 60-minute in depth interview via Microsoft Teams, following up with each participant to ensure they understood what was expected of them throughout the research process.
As there are various differences in healthcare norms and regulations between each of our 4 markets, we provided local moderation from experienced healthcare specialists, to ensure valuable insights were captured correctly by someone who understands the topic at hand. Our client was very pleased that we had managed to find such a variety of different participants that were enthusiastic about their industry. With our help, they were able to uncover insights directly from their target audience based in markets not commonly researched.
