Why is translation and interpreting important?

Professional translation and interpreting services

FieldworkHub works with a trusted network of professional linguists to deliver fast, reliable translation and interpreting services. Our translators regularly work on market reearch projects and we have access to linguists with expertise in particular subjects, ensuring clarity and precision across all translated materials. Whether translating discussion guides, exercises, stimulus content, or participant responses, we offer turnaround times that are typically faster than those of most other agencies, without compromising quality.

Depending on your project’s needs, we can provide either consecutive or simultaneous interpreting. Consecutive interpreting enables you to conduct an interview in a language that you don’t speak through the interpreter. This approach involves brief pauses during the interview while the interpreter relays what has been said so an interview conducted through a consecutive interpreter will typically take longer than one conducted in the interviewee’s native language. By contrast, with simultaneous interpreting (often called simultaneous translation) the interpreter translates in real time over a separate audio channel while participants continue speaking, enabling a more natural and uninterrupted flow.

One point to bear in mind with simultaneous translation is that since the interpreter needs to remain in sync with the discussion, they may not have time to translate every word spoken, particularly if someone is speaking fast or more than one person speaks at the same time. For this reason, if you require transcripts of the session in your own language, we always recommend transcribing the original language recording after the session, rather than transcribing what the simultaneous translator said during the session.

Our process

Our simultaneous translation process

1
Understand client brief
To assign the right simultaneous interpreter we first must understand your language requirements and subject-matter complexity. We then propose one of our trusted and vetted linguists with the right local knowledge and understanding of the subject matter for your project.
2
Prepare for translation
While preparing for translation our simultaneous interpreter will study the discussion guide and stimulus materials in both languages to ensure that they translate key terms accurately during the research sessions. We can also arrange a simultaneous translator briefing call for more complex projects.
3
Interpret research sessions
Our interpreters provide translation as required to support international market research sessions. Consecutive interpreting enables researchers and participants to communicate easily, even if they do not share a language, while simultaneous interpreting avoids any interruptions to the the flow of the discussion.
4
Transcribe research sessions
Recordings of the research sessions provide both original language and target language versions of the discussion, but if you require transcripts in your own language, we recommend having the original language recording transcribed after the session since this usually results in greater accuracy than simultaneous translation.
