We were asked to recruit twelve surgeons and seven hospital administrators and executives from different UK hospitals. The primary purpose of this study was to better understand the respondents’ experiences with, and opinions of, software solutions and applications, and robotics that they use (or are aware of) in the operating theatre environment. The client wanted to recruit a mix of respondents who are currently using digital and robotic products in their hospitals and respondents who are not currently using these products but are interested in using them in the future. Respondents needed to be from specific surgical fields or undertake specific hospital administration roles.
As these are hard-to-reach profiles with busy schedules, it was of utmost importance to work with a flexible schedule to ensure we could adapt when respondents had work emergencies to deal with at short notice. With this flexibility in scheduling, we successfully recruited and completed interviews with one hepato-pancreato-biliary and general surgeon, one general surgeon, one bariatric surgeon, four gynaecologists, one gynaecological oncologist, three colo-rectal surgeons, two thoracic surgeons and one upper gastro-intestinal surgeon.
From the administrative and executive side, we successfully conducted interviews with one interview in financial operations, one in IT-related functionality, one in general management, two operating theatre managers/directors, and two surgical services directors giving the client detailed insights on the topic from a wide range of different perspectives.
Working with the FieldworkHub team was truly a relief on a complex multi-country project. We used their local moderator and simultaneous translation services in a few markets. Winnie, as well as the local country teams, were adaptable, responsible and accommodating in a logistically challenging project. I value their partnership and will be tapping them in again on the next international project!
